[Rice] (Red rice)...Red is said to have the power to ward off evil and bad luck, and it carries the meaning of "May you avoid misfortune and grow up healthy."

[Fish] (sea bream with head and tail)...It is considered auspicious because it sounds like "medetai (sea bream)" and because its red skin and white flesh represent the colors red and white.

[Simmered dish]... Use auspicious ingredients such as lotus root, which has holes that allow you to see into the future, and bamboo shoots, which grow straight and strong.

[Soup] (Clear soup)...The meaning is "May the baby's sucking power become stronger and he/she grow up healthily."

[Pickled vegetables]...Pickled octopus, a play on the word "tako" (octopus) meaning happiness.
